David “Bee” Lolis was born from modest beginnings in Canada, his rise to entrepreneurial success began in the late 1990s, with tech start-ups opening doors to the world. By the dawn of the millennium, David was immersing himself in uncharted waters — the realm of functional beverages, long before the market knew it needed them. Nearly a decade ago, a passion was sparked — this time for honeybees. An audacious new frontier coined “Hive₂O” — a neologism for honey water; a product as pure as the vision behind it. Since 2017, David has been silently building his operations from a single Hive to four thriving facilities across the U.S. It’s the future of clean refreshments, carefully designed by a man who sees beyond the trends to what the world will crave tomorrow.

I come from a tech engineering background, with a knack for figuring out how things work and being creative. My first venture in the beverage industry was successful, though I made plenty of mistakes along the way. Those lessons shaped my experience. I took what I learned, developed a plan, and crafted a product that launched an entirely new category — Hard Honey.
Everything clicked once I found the right partners, team, and hive to support the vision. My role as CEO is being a visionary — taking an idea from nothing and bringing it to life, then passing that vision to those who believe in it and help make it even better. We’re now in the exciting phase of refining and growing that vision, taking something that started from nothing and shaping it into something remarkable. That’s what drives me — creating something from nothing.
"What inspired you to start or join your organization, and what is its core mission?"
The inspiration to start the organization came from recognizing a gap in the beverage industry. After 25 years of experience, I saw that the seltzer, hard kombucha, and hard lemonade markets were mediocre at best. There was a need for something better, and that’s where the idea of Hard Honey was born. Our core mission is rooted in sustainability — it’s about giving back more than we take. We focus on protecting bees, growing hives, supporting local apiaries, and educating municipalities about harmful practices like spraying D40, which kills bees.
